I'm Still Here by Edward R Nasello
A little over two years ago, my sister woke up one February morning to find her son laying on the floor. He passed away suddenly in the night after 12 years of an amazing life that defied the odds and left an indelible mark on everyone he met. My nephew, Joseph, was a special needs child who fought every year of his life to overcome challenges; and he always did it with a smile on his face. Since the day that he passed on, he has remained a part of our lives. We continue to celebrate his life and honor him by trying to help others who are facing similar challenges or coping with loss. My sister is actively involved in fundraising and speaking with families who have recently lost a child or have children receiving palliative care. She has a webpage in his honor, called More Hearts for Joseph, and she collects gifts for a local children's hospital each year.
About one year ago, inspired by the life of my amazing nephew, I decided to write a picture book to help children and their families cope with the loss of a loved one. With the help of my niece, who did the illustrations, we wrote "I'm Still Here." This book focuses on how to confront loss by celebrating life. It will help children and their families to find strength in remembering their loved one and celebrating his or her life each day. This book is currently available at Amazon.com. Proceeds from the sale of this book are going to the More Hearts for Joseph foundation.
